Anniversary Party For Marquee Magazine

By David McIntyre, Lyons Blueologist

The Soul Rebels brass band formed when Lumar LeBlanc and Derrick Moss, originally members of New Orleans’ iconic Dejean’s Young Olympia brass band, decided they wanted to play the new exciting music they were hearing on the radio while respecting the tradition they loved. Both New Orleans natives, the pair was steeped in the fundamentals of New Orleans jazz, but inevitably

About Town - April 11, 2013

Where did that warm weather go?  It was seventy degrees, and in a few hours we are getting snow and cold again. However, we need the moisture, so let it snow!  It was great that it was nice for spring vacation and the St. Vain track meet, so now back to school just six more weeks of school.

Wow, there are lots of things going on in Lyons. Pick up the Parks & Recreation brochure and participate!

LHS Track & Field: Longmont Invitational

By Renée Haip

Saturday, April 6, was a beautiful day for track and field at Longmont High School’s Everly-Montgomery Field. Nineteen schools (including South Dakota’s Rapid City Stevens High School) gathered to run, jump, and throw. Co-hosting with Longmont, Lyons was one of two 2A schools in attendance, with the bulk of competing schools falling into the 4A division. While many Lyons’ athletes were still out on spring break and a few others were out

Welcome to Lyons

By Joseph Lekarczyk

In the interest of full disclosure, let it be known that the author of this article is married to the Mayor.

Nothing like a budget discussion item on the agenda to clear out a room! There were only  five members of the public in attendance at Monday night’s Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting, and none of them stuck around to take in the presentation and discussion of the December 2012 financial statement. Too bad, because in addition to there being a new sheriff in town, there is now officially a new Finance Director too, and from the timber of

Unique Exhibit At Longmont Museum

The Longmont Museum (400 Quail Road) presents “American Visionaries - Dorothea Lange and Maynard Dixon,” which opened March 2, and is running through May 26. For the first time, photographs by Lange and drawings by Dixon will be exhibited together. These two twentieth century American artists share a closer bond than most people realize; they were married from 1920 to 1935.

“Although they were married for fifteen years, and tackled similar subjects, work by Lange and Dixon, until now, has not been shown together in a single exhibition.  As artists living together through the 1920s and the first

Thank You Donors!

To the Lyons Community,

I’d like to personally thank all of the blood donors who came out on Easter Sunday to support the second annual Lyons Community Foundation Blood Drive. Together with Bonfils, we once again over-exceeded expectations and were able to “fill the bus!” Thirty-seven donors, and we sadly had to turn a number of people away. There were twelve new donors; those that have never given blood before. The demographic profile was a true mix.

Improving Allergies Naturally

By  Dr. Sara Hart

Drippy noses, itching eyes, fatigue, and shortness of breath are all a terrible combination of symptoms that tend to show up for millions of Americans in springtime. While it seems like an awful way for the season to welcome someone, there are numerous ways to help improve the pattern over time.

About Town - April 4, 2013

Monday was April Fool’s Day however, the weather was not fooling when it was so great Easter Sunday. We hope all enjoyed Easter. The Fire District’s Easter egg hunt with Mr. Bunny was great with lots of kids and lots of prizes. Churches were filled with worshipers happy that the Lord “arose” so many years ago to save us from our sins, and give us something to “look” to at all times. And then, of course, more Easter egg hunts, brunches, dinners with our loved ones, a ride to the hills, games, picnics, etc. An enjoyable day!
