Preparing To Be Prepared

Lyons Preparedness

By Toshen Golias

The 2013 flood quickly taught me two things. The first was personal: I need to be better prepared for the next time. The second was at the community level: communication is crucial. In the interest of full disclosure, let it be known that the author of this column is an elected official. Her opinions are hers, and do not necessarily reflect those of the entire Board of Trustees.

It is a benefit for the Lyons Elementary School. See you there!

Wait! What?

What a mess! Does the left hand even know what the right hand is doing? It didn’t appear to be the case Monday night at the Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting.

On the agenda was the approval of a license for a recreational retail marijuana grow operation, the first reading of an ordinance to impose a

La Fiesta Esta Aqui!

The cold snowy weather last Saturday afternoon couldn’t put a damper on la fiesta for Ramon Vasquez, Carmen Cruz and their children, as scores of family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and volunteers joined Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley to turn over the keys, and dedicate the couple’s new home on Park Street.

The Vasquez family’s home, just a half block from the river, was destroyed in the 2013 flood. Through the help of Lyons Volunteer Coordinator Ed Kean, the family
