The Magic Of Enzymes

By Dr. Sara Hart, ND, MSOM, LAc

Enzymes are one of nature’s most amazing substances.  As complex chemical structures, enzymes interact in every part of our bodies to transform substances from one product to the next.  Enzymes are responsible for our metabolism, digestion, break down of waste products, energy production, immune activity, and much more!  Enzymes require certain conditions in order to be most efficient at their tasks.  Minding our enzymes may make or break our state of health!

Enzymes interact in every aspect of human physiology.  They work as a lock and key mechanism, specifically matching the substance that they are made to break apart or transform.  If we go without one enzyme, this can serve as an obstacle to many other steps in our bodies functioning. A common example of enzymes effect in our health is

Being A Fit Mother

Keeping Lyons Fit

by Mary Chase

In light of Mothers’ Day I chose to reflect on what it is and why it is so important to be a fit mother. Since my children were born, I have struggled with the guilt of leaving my children to be physically fit. As a personal trainer and fitness instructor, I have seen mothers struggle with those same issues. My standard response in both cases is the same, “I am a better wife and mother because I exercise.” How do I draw that conclusion? Well I am about to tell you.

First of all, as I sat in the sun with my children on Mothers’ Day enjoying the time and our families’ happiness one thought came to mind. I will not always be with my children

About Town - May 16, 2013

Another week gone by.  It was 80 degrees today! Too hot for May!   Only one more week of school.  How time flies.  Be sure to attend all the last of school events. Over sixty students will be graduating from Lyons High, most  receiving scholarships and awards.  We are proud of our students, and our school, being one of only two schools of the St. Vrain District making it to the top 5% in US World Report. Congratulations.

No Defense Like A Good Offense!

Historically it takes pitchers a little longer into the season to catch up with the hitters. But this was ridiculous! In four games Monday night, there were one hundred and twenty-one runs scored, and more hits, walks, and errors than can be humanly calculated. But it was entertaining. If you haven’t taken the family down to Bohn Park on a

Boys Claim Title; Basey Soars

By Renée Haip

Last Friday, May 10, the Lyons Track and Field team traveled east to Sterling where they participated in the Patriot League meet, their final competition before the state championships. One of only two 2A representatives in a field of larger, competitive 3A schools, the Lyons Lions had a good day with the young men of Lyons capturing the championship title for the fourth consecutive year, and the girls taking a respectable third place of the eleven teams.

From start to finish, the boys had numerous good performances. Individually, all-conference honors went to Ryan Boucher in both the 400M (1st) and 200M (1st), Paul Roberts

Community Church Celebrates 105 Years

By LaVern Johnson

A large crowd enjoyed celebrating the 105th anniversary of the Lyons Community Church last Sunday, with the Stover Street Stompers from Fort Collins bringing in the jazz;  a group of  costumed church folks (Jerry Fike, Debbie Tabor, Chuck and Kitty Keim, Sam Miller,  Jani and Zeke Little, and others) led by Carol Pranschke singing a ballad of old-time music.  Pastor

Representative Jared Polis Speaks To Students

The Lyons High School government classes got a chance to ask questions of United States House of Representatives member Jared Polis last Thursday morning. On a short break from his duties in Washington D.C., Polis was making the rounds in Colorado’s Second District to find out what’s on his constituents’ minds. The students gave him an earful.

After Representative Polis gave a brief biography of himself, touched on the basic structure of the U.S. government, and covered his job description and duties, he opened it up to questions from the students. The students asked question about some of the recent hot button issues like expanded background checks for gun sales, reduction of the national debt,
