Roads Traveled by Linda L. Osmundon

Nine tips for Packing Smart

The Christmas decorations are stored away; the holiday parties are long over; and the football season soon comes to an end. It is time to consider 2012 vacations. Whether you travel far or near, make your plans early. Airlines, except Southwest, charge for luggage. One checked bag, a carry-on and a shoulder bag or backpack are all you need for most destinations. The size of the checked bag depends on how long you will be away and the activities planned.

Christmas is over and you have a pile of cards. Take the road down memory lane and recycle those cards while remembering the people who sent them. Take the road alone or with children.

Great Service!

Great Service!
Dear Lyons Volunteer Fire Department,
While visiting our son and family during the holidays, I took a fall. I want to thank the Lyons volunteer Fire Department and the paramedics for the quick response and assistance. Being so far from home, their care and kindness was very much appreciated.

To Vote Or Not To Vote

by Joseph Lekarczyk

In the interest of full disclosure, let it be known that the author of this article is married to the Mayor.

In an evening that was described as “mostly house keeping” by Town Clerk Deb Anthony, the Board of Trustees (BOT) put on a unified front Tuesday night (Monday was the New Year’s holiday) and passed every measure, except one, by a unanimous 7 – 0 vote.

A Year in Review 2011

In order to allow Lora and I, and our many contributing writers, photographers, proofreaders, and columnists to enjoy the holidays and school break with family and friends, The Lyons Recorder will continue with our tradition of “The Year In Review” edition of the paper. This will be a two-part series; Part I to be published on December 29, and Part II on January 5. We hope that everyone in the community had a very Merry Christmas, and we also hope that 2012 will indeed be a very happy and prosperous New Year for everybody! Thank you all for your continued support of the paper.
Joseph Lekarczyk and Lora Gilson
The Lyons Recorder

Although it seemed at times like the Board of Trustees (BOT) were spending all their time and energy with medical marijuana (and a lot of time WAS spent dealing [pun intended] with it), the group did manage to accomplish some other things as well.

You Rock boys!

Dear Editor,
I had the pleasure of being a Lyons Lions football team mom this year, but I didn’t do it alone. Not only did I have two amazing co-captains who did just as much as I did – Liz Triffet and Denise Dick-Clark – but I had other parents who stepped up so much (Paul Triffet, Michelle Titus and Brian Kalvig are just three who come to mind) that I have to say: Lyons rocks!
