Helen Hunt Jackson Advocate for American Indians, 1800’s

By Kathleen Spring

In a time when it was not appropriate for women to be activists in the public eye, Helen Hunt Jackson brushed aside the improprieties, and published two major books to show the adverse conditions that American Indians were being subjected to on reservations.

The Lyons Historic Society is sponsoring a solo performance by re-enactor Bonnie Kohl on Sunday, May 12, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the log cabin of Smokin’ Dave’s BBQ & Taphouse, in Lyons. This

About Town - April 18, 2013

Wow first a nice rain, and now a nice BIG snowstorm, and more coming (13” yesterday), which will green the grass, save us from fires, give us drinking water, help the farmers, and is truly worth millions of dollars to all. We are all very thankful.

I have an anniversary coming up; April 23, 1950, F. LaVerne Johnson of Niwot and I were married in the Lyons Methodist Church, with Rev. Albert Wagner presiding. Truly a long time ago.  I worked for O. J. Ramey

By Renée Haip

The Lyons Lions track teams traveled to Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood on Friday and Saturday, April  12 and 13, to participate in their most competitive meet of the season thus far. Dominated by a majority of large 5A schools, Lyons was the sole 2A small school representative. Winds hampered several of the meet’s late afternoon events, which were predominately composed of preliminaries for event distances of 400 meters and less, as

BOT Moves Forward On Library District

By  Joseph Lekarczyk

In the interest of full disclosure, let it be known that the author of this article is married to the Mayor.

Because of the unrelenting snow Monday night, the Mayor juggled the items on the Board of Trustees (BOT) agenda to  allow those who had to drive through the storm to get done first and get home. Your intrepid journalist, who only had to drive five blocks through the mess, was not one of the fortunate few.

Lyons Substation Supervisor Sgt. Nick Goldberger reported, “Besides the snow and the elk that were spotted outside of Town Hall, everything was pretty normal in Lyons.” Believe it or not, no citizens braved the tempest to participate in audience business, so that was “skipped over.” It was then on to the approval of a special event permit by the Town of Lyons for a “Diva Dash” 5K race event to be held in Bohn Park on Saturday, May 4. Mayama Movin’

Mayama Movement Studio owners Ali Kishiyama and Jasmine Lok are pleased and excited about moving their studio down the street. Currently located in the rear of The Stone Cup & Kitchen, the two women have been in negotiations with representatives of the Colorado Odd Fellows Association to rent the Odd Fellows Hall, which has been unused since the local branch stopped functioning last year. Lok says the move will triple their space overall, and double the studio space.
