Death Café And Art Salon

During the Lyons Art Weekend, Friday, June 7 through Sunday, June 9, the Death Café and Art Salon will be open between the hours of 12:30 and 5 p.m., at the Lyons Yoga and Wellness Center (310 Main Street). Visitors to the Death Café and Art Salon will spend time in a nurturing and open environment to talk about the art of death (or the death of art), and to explore resulting feelings and images through a process of creative “uncovery.”

Participants will be free to discuss topics of life and death from many points of view. Paper and art supplies will be provided for those wishing to explore their thoughts and feelings visually.

“A Rather Abrasive Topic”

Ask the Handywoman!

By Kheli Mason, The Handy Woman LLC

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of work with wood. Knotty pine to be exact. Hundreds of board feet of it, making baseboard and door and window molding. It takes a lot of busy work to sand and stain and sand and seal all of this wood, but the results are definitely worth the effort.

You have a lot of time for musing when you are doing this type of task. You have to pay attention and keep an eye on what you are doing as you sand each board with one and sometimes two different grits of sandpaper and maybe even a third in between stain and sealer coats. As I was going about this task, I started thinking about what life was like without sandpaper. I couldn’t

Help Protect Our Native Birds

By David Rahbany

In spite of the recent snows, spring has arrived in Lyons!  One clear sign is the return of colorful bluebirds and finches to our town.  Unfortunately, these birds are under threat from some nasty neighbors.

House sparrows and starlings are non-native, invasive species that kill and out-compete native birds like the Mountain Bluebird.  Please help keep native songbirds coming back to Lyons by

About Town - April 25, 2013

Now we are having a lot of snow, sixteen inches last week, and it melted right away, and about eight inches today! That will really green things up.  It is a sad thought, the snow and rain cause things to grow, the sun then dries them out, and causes the wildfires!  There doesn’t seem to be any solution to that on going problem! However, I like nice sprIng snows that melt fast. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Lyons Roar At 37th Annual BoCo Championships

By Renée Haip

It is no secret that Boulder County has a history of producing top-notch talent in the track and field world, and if there is a single event that acts as a showcase for the current wealth of talent at the local high school level, it would be the annual Boulder County Championships. This meet brings together the schools of the county’s two districts, St. Vrain and Boulder Valley School Districts, for a day of competition and celebration.

This year’s meet on Saturday, April 20, was an especially terrific day for senior Nola Basey. At the meet’s start, Basey was awarded the Monty Sutak scholarship for her high school track and field accomplishments. As the day progressed, Basey claimed each and every title in the jumps. Her winning jumps of 5’3” in the high jump, 36’1.75” in the triple jump, and 16’6.25” in the long jump

Art In Public Places

Spring brings with it a desire to be outdoors. Many Northern Colorado towns host Friday night walks where people take to the city streets, pop in and out of specialty shops, galleries, and/or museums, and partake of refreshments (often free). Daytime suggests a stroll to view art in public places. You’ll

Great Local Bands Coming To Oskars

The weekend of Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27, brings two of my favorite local bands to Oskar Blues in Lyons. The two bands are very different from each other, but similar in their ability to entertain folks with first-class music.
