“Forty Hours” A First Hand Account Of Last Week’s Fire

By Jeff Ruiz

“What a beautiful sky …” I thought to myself as I lounged in the hot spa, looking out through the sun room windows. I’d had a sleepless night, owing to the noise of high winds, and had risen earlier than usual. It was morning twilight in the six-o’clock hour, and the sun had yet to rise over the eastern ridge of Stone Canyon. The clouds were coloring from light orange to deeper orange and back again. The moment was golden. As I took another sip of coffee I remembered this was

Roads Traveled With Linda L. Osmundson

To Fly Or Drive, That Is The Question This Summer

Many years ago my friend’s nine-year -old daughter suggested the family buy a motor home so they could drive to Hawaii. Little did she know that sometimes a destination can only be reached by airplanes or boats. With gas prices rising hourly, Channel 9 News did a study recently on which is cheaper: to fly or drive. So, I did a comparison of my own for our Minnesota trip to celebrate a 100th birthday over July 4th.

Tennis Anyone?

By Joseph Lekarczyk

In the interest of full disclosure, let it be known that the author of this article is married to the Mayor.

The Lyons Board of Trustees (BOT) spent a little over an hour and a half in a workshop Monday evening, hammering out their final (hopefully) strategies for the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with Boulder County. The presentation by Staff included colored maps, keys, and lively discussions. At stake are what properties will be in the “primary planning area,” which ones will be in the “secondary planning area,” who will have “influence over what,” who gets “veto power over whom,” and “how long” the term of the IGA will be. Then they started their regular meeting.

Rising Need For Food Assistance

By Eve Hersh

With grocery bags in hand, people gather around the Lyons Community Church on Wednesday afternoons, waiting to get their free groceries. These Lyons locals are some of the many Boulder County residents who often face the hard decision of choosing between heating their homes and feeding their families. Unfortunately, support for these people in the form of donations to food pantries seems to be dwindling, and the Lyons Community Food Pantry has felt the slump.
