COMMENTARY: What's the future for affordable housing in Lyons?

Ever since the 2013 flood, and even earlier, Town of Lyons leaders, homeowners, and the Planning and Community Development Commission (PCDC) have been talking about accessory dwelling units (ADUs) as a possible solution to provide more options for affordable rentals in town. As of Monday night, the first homeowners to participate in the Town of Lyons ADU process got the first step of approval from the PCDC. Next it will go to the Board of Trustees (BOT) on May 1.
The Town of Lyons Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Events will be reinstating a parking fee for LaVern Johnson Park in 2017. A parking fee of $5 for every 4 hours for those who wish to park in LaVern Johnson on weekends and holidays, from April 1 through October 15. One free resident
We've all known it for some time, but now it's official. Lyons has been named Colorado's best outdoor adventure town (small town division) by Elevation Outdoors Magazine.
The magazine references Planet Bluegrass and the two major festivals, RockyGrass and FolksFest, and notes, “Lyons is a magnet for small, funky, independent business too, and it's amazing that a town of just 1,800 resident can house so many spots that complement outdoor adventure.” They
