The City of Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) Department encourages local artists to submit artwork for its summer “Art Inspired by the Land” exhibition, an art show that celebrates the lands OSMP conserves and maintains. This community event will showcase art created by community artists and inspired by OSMP’s diverse landscapes.

Here it is snowing again. Lots of events, square dances, etc., were cancelled over the weekend; with most rescheduled for this weekend. The LES Bingo Night has been rescheduled for this Friday, March 6, at 6 p.m. Be sure to attend. Get in on those huge fun baskets created by each class, the cakewalk, hotdogs, and of course bingo! It is a benefit for the Lyons Elementary School. See you there!

The Lyons High School boys’ basketball team hosted Clear Creek in the first round of district play-offs on Tuesday, February 24. This was a must win for the Lions to keep their play-off hopes alive. Lyons set the tone from the initial frame with tough defense and excellent shooting to gain a 23-8 advantage. The boys extended their lead the second quarter going into the half-time break. The Lyons High School girls’ basketball team traveled to Loveland last week (Tuesday, February 24) to take on the number two seeded 2A team, Resurrection Christian. The Lady Lions needed a win to advance into the regional tournament. Despite their contrasting season records, the Lady Lions lost to Resurrection by just a single point during their regular season match up.

Whether it can accurately be described as “ironic,” or perhaps “O. Henry-like” (if there is even such a word), is open for discussion, however the result of the request for approval of a retail recreational marijuana business license by Headquarters at Monday night’s special Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting certainly came as a bit of a surprise. It was turned down!

The cold snowy weather last Saturday afternoon couldn’t put a damper on la fiesta for Ramon Vasquez, Carmen Cruz and their children, as scores of family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and volunteers joined Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley to turn over the keys, and dedicate the couple’s new home on Park Street.
