A Lion’s Sweep of Individual and Team Titles

By Renée Haip

Each year, the schools of Saint Vrain Valley School District gather at Longmont’s Sunset Golf Course to compete against each other on a slow and grueling 5K course of grass covered hills.  By far the smallest of the district’s eight public schools, Lyons revels in this David and Goliath style competition.  Last year, the girls placed third and the boys placed second, a mere point behind Skyline.  On Tuesday, September 17, the Lions arrived ready for a rematch.

Tank Or Tank-Less? This One Could Get Me In Hot Water!

Ask the Handy Woman!

I was talking with a client the other day about water heaters. Her conventional 40-gallon electric storage tank water heater was going to need to be replaced soon and she had some questions about the differences between tankless, or on-demand, heaters versus the storage tank heaters. In its 13th year, the St. Vrain Cross Country Invitational has become one of the largest, and most highly anticipated meets of Colorado’s high school cross country season.  2543 runners representing 102 middle schools and high schools from around the state gathered on a cloudless morning to test themselves on the Lyons home course (a 5K for high school and two miles for middle school).  Members of the Lyons community joined forces to help volunteer with everything from parking to concessions to

Lions Battle Cougars At Home

By Kari Basey
The Lady Lions volleyball team faced their strongest competitor yet in Resurrection Christian on Thursday, September 6.  Historically, matches against this school have been hard fought battles often involving a fifth and final set; this year was no exception.

The Lyons team this year is an interesting mix of five senior leaders, four talented freshmen and one strong sophomore and junior.  The team is loaded with defensive players in seniors Joelle Holst, Genna Gibson and Rebecca Weglarz.  Setting duties

Lyons Stumbles At Yuma

By Gary Gorman
The Lyons Lions high school football team made the long drive out to Yuma on Friday night to take on their longtime rival, the Yuma Indians, in a non-league game. Unfortunately, the bus ride home would be even longer. This game saw two different teams than in years past; here were two teams with much smaller squads, and a lot of younger players that had to step in and fill roles that before where held by juniors and seniors.
