About Town Dec. 20, 2012

A sad week with twenty children and six adults shot in an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. What is this world coming to?  Bless them all, Lord!
Only one week until Christmas. May it bring us peace and safety.  Will we get some snow, which is needed badly?  Some snow or rain, to make the grass green.  Have a safe and happy holiday!

Christmas Keepsakes From Around The World

By Joseph Lekarczyk

The Lyons Board of Trustees (BOT), before a packed house (by budget meeting standards) of two private citizens, approved the 2013 Town budget in fifteen minutes with nary a peep from those present. Lyons resident Mike Whipp, who is never at a loss for words when discussing the Town financial situation while enjoying a cup of coffee at a local caffeine dispensary, was oddly silent as Mayor

Two week until Christmas. The goal is to shop at home, which raises the town’s sales tax, which helps “up” our town, which is good for all!
It was a cold weekend (10 degrees here and 2 degrees out South at Bill Martin’s)! B-r-r-r.

BOT Rejects Budget

By Joseph Lekarczyk
In the interest of full disclosure, let it be known that the author of this article is married to the Mayor.

The Lyons Board of Trustees (BOT) put a public hearing and resolution for the adoption of the Town’s 2013 budget on Monday night’s agenda, practically guaranteeing there would be nobody in the audience. It almost worked! A lone resident showed up for the meeting, however he never got a chance to comment on the budget because the Trustees were so

THE 38TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS BAZAAR has gone by, and what a great one!
We really give credit to the Lyons Elementary PTO who took over the challenge of not letting the bazaar die, and to make it bigger and better.  Our thanks!  The bazaar has become

Crested Butte: A Road Traveled

For several years, our son begged us to visit Crested Butte where he owns a house he rents when he or his business partner don’t want to use it themselves. A little out of the way and about 255 miles from Lyons, the trip is well worth the effort.
