Parking Passes Now Available
The Town of Lyons Parks & Recreation Department will once again implement a five-dollar per vehicle parking fee for those who wish to park in the Meadow or Bohn Park parking lots on weekends and holidays. The parking fee will be enforced for the 2013 summer season (April 15 through October 1). Residents of Lyons will not be charged the five-dollar parking fee as long as they utilize a “resident” parking pass, which can be obtained at no charge for all
New Ban On Disposal Of E-waste
Beginning July 1, Colorado residents may no longer dispose of most electronic waste (e-waste) in their household trash because Colorado landfills may no longer accept e-waste. The change is the result of a new law, the Electronic Recycling Jobs Act. Industry, most businesses, government agencies, institutions, and schools already are subject to e-waste disposal restrictions.
“The new law applies to TV sets, central processing units, computer monitors and peripherals, printers and fax machines, all kinds of laptops and notebook computers, DVD players, VCRs and any video display device with a screen larger than four inches,” explained Wolf Kray, recycling specialist with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The ban also includes radios, stereo equipment, and video game consoles. Telephones, motor vehicle components, and non-hazardous industrial or commercial devices may still be legally disposed of in a Colorado landfill.

Don Burgard, the copy/production editor of Fine Homebuilding, one of my all-time favorite magazines, tells us all about plungers and more specifically toilet plungers. Turns out they are not all created equal. Perhaps not the most enthralling topics of discussion, but information we all could use at some point in our lives.

That was really a nice snow; of course, the roads were icy and several things were cancelled, but we got some much-needed moisture. In the square dancing world, there were three out-of-state callers in the area, and half of their dances were cancelled. Dean Doberman of Norfolk, NE, spent the weekend with Gary and Nell Coffey, with his Saturday night dance in Ft. Collins cancelled; he then traveled for a dance in Colorado Springs on Sunday; but square dances in Greeley, Bennett, and a couple in Denver were also cancelled.

BOT Boots Boot

In the interest of full disclosure, let it be known that the author of this article is married to the Mayor.
The Town of Lyons Board of Trustees (BOT) gave the idea of “boots” for repeat parking violators the boot at Monday night’s meeting. But don’t start toe tapping with glee just yet all you scofflaws, the “tow” option is definitely still in play.

Millicent’s Magnificent Magic

This past Saturday evening, spring unfolded at The Corner Studio owned by Valerie Pellegrin. Bulbs were popping up in the front yard while bouquets of creativity were visually blooming inside. Artist Millicent Kang from Boulder, wearing a dress cut from cloth similar in palette to that which was exploding on her stretched canvases, cheerily greeted the opening reception’s array of guests.
