Oak Alley Plantation

Roads Traveled with Linda L. Osmundson

Of all the plantations viewed along the Mississippi River cruise aboard the American Queen, Oak Alley fulfilled every idea of southern antebellum homes (houses built and occupied before the Civil War). Visions of Tara in “Gone with the Wind” came to mind (columned portico, wide staircase, opulent furniture, servants). Today Oak Alley may not now compare to Tara, but it probably did in its heyday.

Located on a rural highway along the Mississippi River, the plantation lays approximately half way between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, a little less than a two hour drive

Follow your Heart

By  Dr. Sara Hart

Stillwater Healing Arts Clinics

In celebration of the lovely month of February, we not only have the opportunity to express our love to those in our lives, view the beautiful creations depicting love in coffee shops, galleries, and living rooms all around, but also emphasize the evaluation and support of heart health in the healthcare world.

More than just a pump, the heart is the electromagnetic center of the body, existing with the rhythm that drives our every moment and interaction. Stop for a moment, feel alongside the neck below the jaw line or feel the thumb side of the wrist for the familiar beat of your pulse. Take a minute to feel the rhythm within you and appreciate the

About Town, February 21, 2013

Valentine’s Day should have brought out a lot of love for your companion: a great dinner, flowers, and of course a box of candy.  It is always nice to tell her or him that you appreciate them putting up with you and your traits in spite of it all. Happy Valentine’s Day, you all!

CAN YOU IMAGINE?
Bob Gilson, Webmaster for The Lyons Recorder, announced at the Chamber social that my weekly news had 50,000 hits last year!  Wow, that is a lot! I don’t really know who all these readers are, but they seem to like my news. Thanks, you all!

February Is Heart Health Month

By Janelle Boyington, RM, CPM

The number one killer of women in the United States is cardiovascular disease. More women die from heart disease than from the next three causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer. We are too often uninformed that women may experience a heart attack as neck, shoulder, upper back or abdominal discomfort; as a fullness, indigestion, or choking feeling; nausea or vomiting; with sweating, lightheadedness,

By Kathleen Spring

Forget email and online dating services; send a Valentine’s card instead.  Janet Freeman says that she sent out Valentine’s cards to all her friends when she was in college. When friend Robert got the card, “He thought that was it. I had chosen him,” said Janet. Their romance started and their marriage lasted forty-seven years, till his passing.
Don Hunt, now deceased was a teacher early in his life, and he carried the schoolhouse tradition of making Valentine’s cards into his marriage. According to Mary, wife of

About Town, February 14, 2013

We had a cold eleven degrees this morning, but no snow. We have to look toward spring snows. A few years ago we had three feet on May 7, which broke the trees, shrubs, etc, causing a lot of damage.  We can’t control the weather!

VALENTINE’S DAY
Be sure to send your best girl and guy a box of chocolates, which should get you in good graces for a few weeks.  This is the time to appreciate our loved ones, those that are here, those that have passed, and to appreciate our world filled with romance and love.  As stated before, Mr. LaVerne would always sneak a big valentine on my typewriter,

As with past years, approximately half of these tickets will be sold at a “locals” discount rate.
