Waltzing through the town of Lyons this past weekend were arts - two three, music - two three, and film - two three.
This annual Lyons Arts and Humanities Commission (LAHC) sponsored event is ever morphing thanks to the constant quick steps of artistic efforts, volunteer energies, community response, and granted support from such entities as the Lyons Community Foundation.
Choreographed by Ellen Hine, who made certain that there was something for everyone, the events boasted an array of local talent in

The Fat About Fats

Last week  in the article, “The Skinny on Fats.” I wrote about the information we can gather from understanding our blood work results relating to our body's fat metabolism; cholesterol, triglycerides and more.

In many cases, the culprit for imbalances in our fat metabolism is the liver.  What is helpful to understand, is that fats do make us fat, when they are the bad fats.

As our society transitioned from an agrarian culture influenced primarily from ancestral dietary traditions, the convenience factor started

Undefeated Blue Mountain Stone got the night off Monday evening on the adult co-ed softball schedule of games in Bohn Park, and a pack of “also rans” used the league leaders’ respite to nip at the heels of the “Big Dog!”  The Natural Disasters, McHeaters, and the Paddy Whackers, all sporting 2 – 1 records, seized the opportunity and won their respective contests to pull within a half a game of the Quarryworkers.

In the six o’clock game between the Natural Disasters and Fast Signs, it was the Disasters that got off to a fast start. Scoring seven runs

Due to a Boulder County fire ban, the City of Boulder has implemented a City Manager’s Rule banning all sources of fire including camp stoves and smoking on all Open Space & Mountain Parks (OSMP) properties. OSMP imposes these bans during extreme fire hazard conditions for public safety and resource protection. Fire danger is currently at a very high level.

In addition, users of the following City of Boulder parks are prohibited from using park charcoal grills and no charcoal grills may be brought into the specified parks due to the proximity to natural lands and forests, until further notice:

Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks

By Dave McIntyre, Lyons Bluesologist

In a career that has its start in the beginnings of the San Francisco rock music scene as a drummer for the nearly forgotten rock group, the Charlatans (the band that some say, “started it all”), through a series of classic recordings in the 1970’s as leader of Dan Hicks and

“Confetti” & Lyons Film Festival At Town Hall

Confetti is often the colorful evidence of a celebration. It is also the theme for the daring-to be-dazzling upcoming new three-month show at Lyons Town Hall, opening Friday, June 7, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Dovetailing with this unjuried art event will be the first annual Lyons Film Festival from 7 to 9 p.m. orchestrated by local filmmaker and celebrated musician, Sally Van Meter. Trustees And Staff Get “Mixed” Reviews For Games

By Joseph Lekarczyk
In the interest of full disclosure, let it be known that the author of this article is married to the Mayor.

Apparently the phone lines and cyberspace at Town Hall were filled with “mixed” reviews concerning the weekend’s Lyons Outdoor Games on Monday. Some thought the event was “bigger and better than ever,” while others feared for their lives (and the well being of their pets) because of the fireworks, loud music, and rowdy behavior. According to Town Administrator Victoria Simonsen, she, Town Staff, and event organizers will be sitting down sometime next week to “debrief” and try to determine what worked well, and what needs to be adjusted. They

“Heart of Lyons” Visioning Session

By Chrystal DeCoster
A “hub” can be defined as, “The central part of a wheel, rotating on or with the axle, and from which the spokes radiate” or “A place or thing that forms the effective center of an activity, region, or network.”

The time is nigh for defining the potential hub of Lyons.

Last Wednesday, May 29, at 7 p.m., at Lyons Valley Village, an open public meeting was held toward this end. Information was gathered from the roughly sixty attendees at this visioning session, where maps were offered for clarification, bubble diagramming and insights from experts
