The Town of Lyons’ recently-completed East Main Street Streetscape Project was named Project of the Year, by Nebraska Municipal Power Pool (NMPP), Lyons’ electric energy provider. A plaque and $200 check was presented at NMPP’s annual conference in South Sioux City, Nebraska, on March 29.
In keeping with Eco-Cycle’s tradition of adding new materials when viable markets or other end-use options are discovered, the nonprofit recycler started accepting plate glass windows, doors, and other plate glass materials earlier this month at the Eco-Cycle/City of Boulder Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials (CHaRM). Plate glass recycling opportunities are rare, even in states such as California, which have aggressive recycling policies.

The Rabbit Mountain Fire on February 20 marked an early start to the 2017 fire season. Four buildings and one hundred fifty-one acres were burned northeast of Lyons prompting the evacuation of seventy-five homes. The Cold Springs fire near Nederland burned over five hundred acres in July of 2016.
