Editor’s note: Ron Gosnell is a retired forester who lives in the Lyons area and who has helped owners manage their forests for over forty years.
With summer coming, many forest landowners will soon be hard at work to make their homes, property, and family safer from wildfire. This usually involves cutting down excess trees and brush. Often the lower quality trees are selected for removal in a “fuel reduction” process. The result is that in many cases, the crooked logs of cut trees look to be worthless. Landowners or contractors end up cutting them into random-length pieces for easier handling, to be manually loaded and then dropped off at a place that accepts this material.
This may be the easiest thing to do depending upon circumstance. However, when there are enough trees of reasonable quality to be thinned, that presents an opportunity to cut wood products. To do so is not that difficult. Wood posts, rails, poles and saw logs must be fairly straight, branchless with flush cuts, and have straight-end cuts to specific

Irish pubs and whiskey may have been part of the humble origins of the Nashville-based band Humming House, but it was the co-producer of their debut album, Grammy award-winning Mitch Dane, who heard these musicians playing together before they were even a band. According to lead vocalist and songwriter, Justin Wade Tam, “Prior to the album, and living in Nashville, the current band members would sing Celtic tunes for fun and drink Irish whiskey in a town where musicians often don’t get a break.” Everything
Ever wanted to cruise but found it too expensive? Try a repositioning trip. At season’s end in fall and spring, some ships reposition, from the Caribbean to Alaska or Mexico, from Canada/New England to the Caribbean, and/or from Europe to the States, or vice versa. If a line finds greater demand from another port, they may choose to reposition for economic reasons. For convenience of flights, regular cruises often begin and end in the same ports. Enzymes are one of nature’s most amazing substances. As complex chemical structures, enzymes interact in every part of our bodies to transform substances from one product to the next. Enzymes are responsible for our metabolism, digestion, break down of waste products, energy production, immune activity, and much more! Enzymes require certain conditions in order to be most efficient at their tasks. Minding our enzymes may make or break our state of health!
Enzymes interact in every aspect of human physiology. They work as a lock and key mechanism, specifically matching the substance that they are made to break apart or transform. If we go without one enzyme, this can serve as an obstacle to many other steps in our bodies functioning. A common example of enzymes effect in our health is

In light of Mothers’ Day I chose to reflect on what it is and why it is so important to be a fit mother. Since my children were born, I have struggled with the guilt of leaving my children to be physically fit. As a personal trainer and fitness instructor, I have seen mothers struggle with those same issues. My standard response in both cases is the same, “I am a better wife and mother because I exercise.” How do I draw that conclusion? Well I am about to tell you.
First of all, as I sat in the sun with my children on Mothers’ Day enjoying the time and our families’ happiness one thought came to mind. I will not always be with my children

Another week gone by. It was 80 degrees today! Too hot for May! Only one more week of school. How time flies. Be sure to attend all the last of school events. Over sixty students will be graduating from Lyons High, most receiving scholarships and awards. We are proud of our students, and our school, being one of only two schools of the St. Vrain District making it to the top 5% in US World Report. Congratulations.
