Lady Lions Season Ends In Loveland

The Lyons High School girls’ basketball team traveled to Loveland last week (Tuesday, February 24) to take on the number two seeded 2A team, Resurrection Christian. The Lady Lions needed a win to advance into the regional tournament. Despite their contrasting season records, the Lady Lions lost to Resurrection by just a single point during their regular season match up.

Dancing On Top Of The World

Area teenager (15) Emma Clark attended Lyons Elementary and Middle Schools, and is a sophomore at Fariview High School. She has been dancing since shortly after she learned how to walk. Somewhere along the line, it was Irish dancing that caught the eye and heart of this young colleen. For the last ten years she has been perfecting her steps at the Moriarty-Moffitt School of Irish Dance in Longmont, under the tutelage Jennifer Moriarty and Susannah Moffitt.

It has always been Emma’s dream to compete in World Championship of Irish Dancing; sort of the Olympics of Irish dancing. Last

Pot & Housing; What else?

Whether it can accurately be described as “ironic,” or perhaps “O. Henry-like” (if there is even such a word), is open for discussion, however the result of the request for approval of a retail recreational marijuana business license by Headquarters at Monday night’s special Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting certainly came as a bit of a surprise. It was turned down!

La Fiesta Esta Aqui!

The cold snowy weather last Saturday afternoon couldn’t put a damper on la fiesta for Ramon Vasquez, Carmen Cruz and their children, as scores of family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and volunteers joined Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley to turn over the keys, and dedicate the couple’s new home on Park Street.

The Vasquez family’s home, just a half block from the river, was destroyed in the 2013 flood. Through the help of Lyons Volunteer Coordinator Ed Kean, the family

Planet Runs Best Festival On The Planet!

The Telluride Bluegrass Festival, produced by Lyons’ own Planet Bluegrass, was awarded “Music Festival of the Year” at the 26th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards, held at the Ryman Auditorium last Saturday night, February 21. This marks the first time a Colorado festival or any “bluegrass festival” has ever won this prestigious award.

The award was presented by stand-up comedian Ralphie May, who exclaimed: “I love bluegrass music!  Love Colorado!” after announcing the winner.
In his acceptance speech, Planet Bluegrass president Craig Ferguson said he was “kinda stunned.”  He added, “Awhile back someone called me and said that the
