The Lyons High School volleyball teams (JV and Varsity) only had one match last week, after having six the week before, giving the girls a much needed breather. With that said, the teams traveled to Fort Collins to take on the Heritage Christian Eagles. The JV squad won their match in straight sets, 25-22 and 25-18. The young Lions were up 22-12 in the first set, but the Eagles clawed their way back into the match and made the Lions earn the win. I still remember the morning in 1997 when I spotted a sign in the window of 303 Main Street in my hometown of Lyons announcing the opening of Oskar Blues. I, being a big blues music fan was delighted and immediately went inside to introduce myself to owner Dale Katechis, and find out what he had planned. I never anticipated what was to come.
Hurricane Harvey flooded Houston several weeks ago. Lyons residents/flood victims Ken Singer & Sandy Spellman’s best friends from New Jersey have a daughter, son-in-law and two grand daughters living in Houston for the past ten years. With warnings that they should evacuate Houston, they went to higher ground in Austin, Texas.
