With their arms full of dozens of boxes of Thin Mints, Samoas, Tag-A-Longs, and Dos-Si-Dos, etc., the Girl Scouts from Troop 71533 stopped by the Lyons Fire Protection District Station House last Saturday morning to present their “Home Town Heroes” with nearly ninety boxes of cookies.
In the course of selling cookies door-to-door over the last couple of months, the enterprising young entrepreneurs also suggested that customers might like to purchase a box or two for the Home Town Heroes program, which would then be donated to a deserving group of the scouts’ choice. This year the young ladies decided on their local firefighting volunteers as the recipients of the bounty.
The appreciative firefighters gave the young women a tour of the firehouse, let them climb on the fire trucks and ambulances, and showed them a short video about the day-to-day workings of a volunteer fire fighter. Chief J.J. Hoffman also offered to give the scouts a lesson in first aid for first responders to help them earn their first aid merit badge.
