While the “official” holiday season is behind us, there is another festival to celebrate; Mardi Gras Season has officially begun! Seizing on the opportunity to brighten up our dark, cold January days, The Allenspark Old Gallery and Community Center kicks off its 2013 Music Potluck year with the Lionel Young Blues and Boogie-Woogie duo. Each monthly potluck will feature a different theme, and what better way to start than with an effervescent, slam-bang Mardi Gras party!
Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) or “Carnival Season” officially began on Epiphany (second Sunday after Christmas) and culminates on the day before Ash Wednesday. New Orleans (The Big Easy) converts the entire city into a Mardi Gras spectacular, with a parade, music, rich food, green, gold and purple beads, and crazy costumes. Using this as our model, The Old Gallery turns into “The Big Easy North” on Sunday, January 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. Everyone is invited; costumes and beads optional. Please bring a dish or beverage to pass. We also encourage donations to the new Allenspark Community Cupboard (non-perishable food and/or personal items). Reservations are not required, but are certainly appreciated for planning purposes. Call (303) 747-1013 or (303) 747-2089.
The Old Gallery is at 14863 Highway 7 in Allenspark, right next to Fire Station One. “Laissez les bons temps rouler!” (Let the good times roll!)
