“Pride” and “Inspiration” were two words used repeatedly on Thursday, April 14, at the Student Activist end-of-year evening celebration. Students were honored in the Lyons Middle/Senior High School Library for their community service work that has helped the town of Lyons and surrounding areas. The evening started with Student Activist members Kate Berreman, Crysten Kurland, Hannah Wallace, and Claire Busby describing community service projects that
they organized and participated in this year, and thanking town residents, businesses, and the Lyons Community Foundation for their support. The young women also shared how the community service work has affected their personal lives.
The students presented Fire Chief Bret Haberstick, from the Sunshine Fire Protection District in Boulder, a check for $1,050 that they raised during their Taco Dinner Fundraiser to help those affected by the Fourmile Canyon Fire. Fire Chief Haberstick shared his gratitude and praised the young students for their dedication and commitment to help. After his speech, two additional guest speakers were introduced for the evening: Mayor Julie Van Domelen and Clark Hodge from the Lyons Community Foundation. A musical PowerPoint presentation of the students doing their community service projects added additional acknowledgment for the students before they were presented with a small gift from their advisors.
