X-C Rules Regionals; Advances To State

By Renée Haip
All through the seasons, a typical sight around Lyons is the community’s youth running through town, along the river corridors, parks, and county trails. It is a scene that has recently been replaced by heavy equipment, members of the National Guard, aid workers, and community members scrambling to get the town back on its feet. Lions BIte

By Oskar LaRue
Last Saturday night the undefeated Lyons Lions played their “homecoming” game against the 5-1 Platte Canyon Huskies at Longmont High’s Everly-Montgomery Field.  The much anticipated contest featured the two best defenses in the league, the longest winning streak (Lyons), and a running game which averages over 300 yards per game (Platte Canyon).  For the Lyons faithful, the game was a thrilling, emotional roller coaster, and despite a pretty unbelievable comeback in the second half, the Lions suffered their first defeat of the season by the score of 35-31.

Cat Fight No Contest!

By Oskar LaRue
The Lyons Lions football squad remained unbeaten after five games as they shut out the winless Nederland Panthers 21-0 in Nederland last Saturday.  With the temperature in the thirties and the wind gusting to fifty miles per hour, Lyons’ Coach Brandon Wilkes knew it was going to be a day for running the ball, not passing it.  And that’s perfectly fine, since he’s got two guys that usually run for over a hundred yards a game in senior quarterback Logan Watson and senior

Heart Felt Loss For The Lady Lions

By Wendy Stevelinck

One week (Thursday, September 19) after the devastating flood to our town, the Lady Lions came together at Skyline High School to take on the Sterling Tigers.  Skyline High School is the new home gym for the Lyons volleyball teams. After only having one practice since the events of the prior week, the girls took to the court.

Game one was taken by the Lady Lions 25 to 20. The key to this first win was outstanding defensive net play by all the girls. The girls came up with some
