The boys of Lyons Cross Country aimed high this year. Not only did they win both their Regional and State meets with a perfect score, their performance at state was so strong through all five runners that they earned a coveted team spot in the championship race at Nike Cross Southwest Regional in Mesa, Arizona on Saturday, November 23. Given the run seven, score five format at Nike

Lyons Has A Great Showing At State

By Wendy Stevelinck
For this year’s Lyons High School volleyball team, it’s their first trip to the State tournament. Lyons last appearance in the State tournament was way back in 1989 when current team member, sophomore Ashlyn Christiansen’s mother Aimee was on the team, (also as a sophomore). The Lady Lions intended to prove they deserved to be there, and they did

Season Ends For Inspirational Lions

By Oskar LaRue
Author’s note: This final article has a more subjective tone than previous ones - I beg your indulgence - it’s been hard to keep a lid on how proud I’ve been of these twenty boys throughout the season.  Perhaps someday they will appreciate the magnitude of their contribution to their hometown just by playing football!  - OL

“No Excuses, No Regrets”

Last Saturday our Lyons Lions football team traveled to Limon to take on the second-ranked Badgers in the opening round of the Class 1A state playoffs. The heavily-favored Badgers did to the Lions what the recent thousand-year flood couldn’t; they ended the Lions’ 2013 season.

Lady Lions Take The 3:10 To Yuma

By Wendy Stevelinck
After a long, long bus ride to the edge of Kansas, the Lyons volleyball team was able to stretch their legs, get the kinks out, rest, and scope out their competition. Yuma and Holyoke played the first match of the day. The Holyoke Dragons lost in straight sets to the host team, the Yuma Indians, so their spirits were down.

Then it was the Lady Lions turn to take on the Dragons. Lyons took a nice lead in the opening set, but the Dragons roared back to pull

Lions Maul Crusaders To Make Playoffs

By Oskar LaRue

The Lyons Lions football team ended their regular season last Friday night by routing the Denver Christian Crusaders 34 to 14 at Mead High School. The win snapped a two-game losing streak and got the Lions into the post-season playoffs. Talk about good timing. But the victory wasn’t as easy as the final score might imply. It took all sixteen guys to accomplish it.

Silver and Gold for Lyons

By Renée Haip

The Lyons cross country teams started their current training cycle last summer, meeting and gathering together regularly to train towards common goals and dreams. Under the care and guidance of Coaches Roberts and Boelé and armed with Coach Boelé’s individualized training plans, they took on the work at hand with focus, commitment, and discipline. Nothing—not flood waters, evacuations, or foreign training grounds—could deter them, and on Saturday, October 26th they were set to take on the challenges to be found at the unforgiving 5K state cross country course at Bear Creek Park and the adjacent rodeo grounds at the Norris-Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs.
