The Colorado High School Cycling League will kick off its inaugural racing season on September 19, in Nathrop as part of a four race series where high
school students can compete for state honors in boys and girls cross country mountain bike racing.

High school teams are forming around the state to develop riders to compete in the race series. Lyons will be proudly represented at the races by the Lyons Mountain Bike Racing Club, formed of students from Lyons Middle/Senior High School and other local schools. The team currently has 12 members, and is the only team from the St. Vrain Valley School district. The team is focused on developing safe, skilled, courteous, and powerful mountain bike riders. The club and race series are designed for boys and girls of all skill levels, from beginners to experts. Club riders receive coaching in safe mountain bike handling, cardiovascular training, bike maintenance, nutrition, trail and road cycling etiquette among other topics. The team will eventually be involved in projects to help maintain local trails and the Lyons Bike Park.
The club is looking for support from the local community in the form of financial assistance, donations of new or used cycling gear, or from anyone interested in participating as an assistant coach or ride leader.
Anyone interested in participating or helping out with the Lyons Mountain Bike Racing Club can contact Patrick Bacalis at Lyons Middle/Senior High, 303-823-6631. See www.coloradomtb.org for more information about the Colorado High School Cycling League.
