Lyons Elementary School’s fourth/fifth grade combo class, under the guidance of Mrs. Stahl, Mr. Moore, Mrs. McCafferty and the Estes Institute, is literally “testing the waters.” The students are going out into the field to collect water samples along the North Fork, the South Fork and at the Confluence of the St. Vrain River for data analysis. The samples the student collect are then evaluated for: alkalinity, bacteria, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, hardness, nitrates, acidity, phosphates, temperature, and turbidity. Evaluative decisions are then made from the data collections. These field sample collections will take place two more times throughout this school year.
