The newly refurbished playground for the kindergarten classes is not the only thing new at Lyons Elementary School (LES) this year. Andrew Moore will be the new hand at the helm, taking over the duties of Principal for LES. As the teachers and staff make preparations for the first day of school (Thursday, August 15), Moore held a staff meeting on Tuesday morning to formally introduce himself and welcome everyone to the new year. (he attended the annual BBQ last May).
Moore comes to LES after spending six years (four and a half as Principal) at Flagstaff Academy, a charter school in the St. Vrain Valley School District, where he oversaw a growth in enrollment from around four hundred students, to slightly over nine hundred during his tenure. This experience will serve him well at LES, where the percentage of children, zero to five years old, is growing by leaps and bounds every year. Prior to his years at Flagstaff, Moore taught advanced remedial math/reading and K through 4th Grade for seven years in Colorado Springs, Ft. Lupton, and Boulder.
A graduate of Colorado College in Colorado Springs, he and his wife, Caitlin, presently live in Old Town Lafayette with their two sons, Ezra, age five, and Basil, age two. Moore says he enjoys the early morning commute through the back roads of Niwot and Hygiene, but may be looking for something a little closer in the future.
