The Lyons Elementary fourth and fifth-grade spelling club held their annual spelling bee last Friday, and a champion has been crowned. Congratulations to Macie Parker who was the last speller standing when she

correctly spelled the word “nozzle.” Macie will, later this month, compete in the Boulder Daily Camera district spelling competition. If she wins there, it’s on to the state championship. Good luck Macie, you go girl!
The avid spellers in the club are: (in alphabetical order) Angela Balsamo, Georgia Barone, Halina Cope, Maya Cornell (who placed second in the bee), Ruth Fager, Fia Finoff, Hope Kincaid, Ava McCall, Brenna McCall, Bevyn Osborne, Macie Parker, Jolee Rivera, Kylee Udovich, and Lexi Walker (what, no boy spellers?). The spellers practice as a group once a week during their lunch recess period. Nancy Parker, an avid school volunteer, has been the spelling bee coordinator and spelling club advisor for the past three years.

Macie Parker was crowned the “Queen Bee” at the Lyons Elementary School spelling bee last week. She will be going on to compete in a district meet in Boulder later this month. Photo courtesy of Lyons Elementary School.
