The long arm of Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig stretched all the way to Lyons Co-Ed Softball League Monday night as the Chamber Rockers, without the services of Patty “PED” Pedooski; one of their female players who was suspended for the remainder of the 2013 season, had to take on Shake N’ Bake in the first game of the evening. Unfazed by the suspension, the Chamber “nine” rocked the Bakers for four runs in the first inning. Unfortunately, out in the field, particularly the spacious

The Lyons Parks & Rec., Co-Ed Adult softball season is starting to wind down, with only the final scheduled game next week (Monday, August 5) and a make-up rain out game (Monday, August 12) left on the slate. The biggest question remains, “Can anyone knock off Blue Mountain Stone?” Fast Signs came close Monday night,

The always well-coiffed Hooligans took on McHeaters in the opening game of the Adult Co-Ed Softball games at Bohn Park Monday night. Hoolie first base woman Deb Sims pontificated, “If we don’t look good, we can’t play good.” Be that as it may, the well-groomed Hooligans might have been better served if their fleet-footed outfielder Dana “Sparky” Richards, just back from a holiday in “America’s Vacationland” (Maine) with a sprained ankle, could have done more than cheer from the dugout. The co-ed adult softball teams were back in action Monday night after a two-week layoff (the first week was because of Good Old Days and Fourth of July, and last week was due to a rain-out).
In the first game of the evening, the Stonebridge Farmers jumped out to a quick two to nothing lead in the top half of the first inning over their opponents Shake N’ Bake. But the Bakers answered the bell with three tallies of their own in the bottom half of the opening frame. From there, the two teams were scoreless over the next inning in a half. In the home

McHeaters didn’t actually lose, 17 to 8, to the Paddy Whackers in Monday night first game; it’s just that they ran out of time (the games are seven innings or one hour, which ever comes first). The Whackers let loose an unabated storm of runs on their opponents starting with the first innings. They scored four runs in the first, a couple more in the second, six in the third inning,

The sparse crowd at Monday night’s six o’clock game was treated to a classic! The Stonebridge Farmers tangled with the Chamber Rockers, and finally started to show the “stuff” that made them last year’s adult co-ed league champions. The Farmers planted the seeds for victory with a single run in the top half of the opening frame, but the

Undefeated Blue Mountain Stone got the night off Monday evening on the adult co-ed softball schedule of games in Bohn Park, and a pack of “also rans” used the league leaders’ respite to nip at the heels of the “Big Dog!” The Natural Disasters, McHeaters, and the Paddy Whackers, all sporting 2 – 1 records, seized the opportunity and won their respective contests to pull within a half a game of the Quarryworkers.
In the six o’clock game between the Natural Disasters and Fast Signs, it was the Disasters that got off to a fast start. Scoring seven runs
