Last Friday, May 10, the Lyons Track and Field team traveled east to Sterling where they participated in the Patriot League meet, their final competition before the state championships. One of only two 2A representatives in a field of larger, competitive 3A schools, the Lyons Lions had a good day with the young men of Lyons capturing the championship title for the fourth consecutive year, and the girls taking a respectable third place of the eleven teams.

It is no secret that Boulder County has a history of producing top-notch talent in the track and field world, and if there is a single event that acts as a showcase for the current wealth of talent at the local high school level, it would be the annual Boulder County Championships. This meet brings together the schools of the county’s two districts, St. Vrain and Boulder Valley School Districts, for a day of competition and celebration.
This year’s meet on Saturday, April 20, was an especially terrific day for senior Nola Basey. At the meet’s start, Basey was awarded the Monty Sutak scholarship for her high school track and field accomplishments. As the day progressed, Basey claimed each and every title in the jumps.
