Watch Out For The Insurance Run

The Hooligans were attempting to get their first win of the season Monday night. Unfortunately, they were trying to get that win against Fast Signs, who were still licking their wounds from the drubbing they took last week, at the hands of the Blue Mountain Bullies. Needless to say, Fast Signs was in no mood for any shenanigans from the Hooligans. The Hoolies got off to a quick start, going up one to zip in their half of the first. That was the last lead they saw. Fast Signs spanked the Hooligans with five runs in the bottom of the first, two more in

By Renée Haip
In their quest for a third repeat of double gold, the Lyons Lions traveled to the Colorado State Track and Field Championships where the Lady Lions were expected to have a legitimate battle with Paonia and 2A-newcomer Hotchkiss, as well as their usual worthy eastern plains’ competitor, Akron. Senior Nola Basey led the charge with her superior jumping abilities by taking the high jump win on day one with 5’4”. Basey unleashed a personal record breaking leap of 17’-7.5” in the long jump to take the win by more than a foot on day two. Had the

No Defense Like A Good Offense!

Historically it takes pitchers a little longer into the season to catch up with the hitters. But this was ridiculous! In four games Monday night, there were one hundred and twenty-one runs scored, and more hits, walks, and errors than can be humanly calculated. But it was entertaining. If you haven’t taken the family down to Bohn Park on a

Boys Claim Title; Basey Soars

By Renée Haip

Last Friday, May 10, the Lyons Track and Field team traveled east to Sterling where they participated in the Patriot League meet, their final competition before the state championships. One of only two 2A representatives in a field of larger, competitive 3A schools, the Lyons Lions had a good day with the young men of Lyons capturing the championship title for the fourth consecutive year, and the girls taking a respectable third place of the eleven teams.

From start to finish, the boys had numerous good performances. Individually, all-conference honors went to Ryan Boucher in both the 400M (1st) and 200M (1st), Paul Roberts

Lyons Roar At 37th Annual BoCo Championships

By Renée Haip

It is no secret that Boulder County has a history of producing top-notch talent in the track and field world, and if there is a single event that acts as a showcase for the current wealth of talent at the local high school level, it would be the annual Boulder County Championships. This meet brings together the schools of the county’s two districts, St. Vrain and Boulder Valley School Districts, for a day of competition and celebration.

This year’s meet on Saturday, April 20, was an especially terrific day for senior Nola Basey. At the meet’s start, Basey was awarded the Monty Sutak scholarship for her high school track and field accomplishments. As the day progressed, Basey claimed each and every title in the jumps. Her winning jumps of 5’3” in the high jump, 36’1.75” in the triple jump, and 16’6.25” in the long jump
