After a week of three tough losses, the Lady Lions came back strong with two hard-fought losses to very good teams and two blowout victories.
Lyons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Monday’s (September 26) makeup game in Berthoud, only to see the lead dissolve in the bottom of the second. The

Lions couldn’t drive any more runs home, and Berthoud put them away 7-2. Chandler Subbert went two for three and Dakotah Chartier also contributed two hits.  Madison Myers and Maddy Wallace had one hit apiece.

The Lady Lions hosted the Weld Central Rebels Tuesday (September 27), and the Rebels probably wish they hadn’t been invited. Lyons jumped all over the Rebel pitching, banging out nine hits and scoring 16 runs in a mercy-shortened 4-inning contest. Sammi Bashor, Chandler Subbert, and Madison Myers each had a couple hits, and Subbert had the only triple of the game. Myers and Madeline Wallace each hit a double. The Lyons batters drew ten walks in the game, while Lyons pitcher Rachel Bashor only gave up one walk, one hit, and one unearned run.

Lyons lost a nail-biter in Kersey Thursday (September 29), falling 2-1 to the Platte Valley Broncos in extra innings.  Platte Valley is an excellent team and their pitcher was very tough, but Lyons never trailed until the very end.  Coach Schuyler commented “We made the plays in the field, but just couldn’t push another run across.”  To put this game in perspective, Platte Valley last year beat The Valley Vikings twice, and Valley is the two-time defending state champion.  Any close game against either of these two teams is an admirable accomplishment.

The game was scoreless until Hannah Wallace, pinch running for Rachel Bashor, scored on a fielder’s choice in the top of the fifth.  Lyons held that 1-0 lead until the bottom of the seventh when the Broncos first batter hit a triple and then scored on a fielder’s choice.  The winning run scored in the bottom of the eighth from second base on a base hit to right field.  Rachel Bashor pitched all eight innings, scattering five hits and three walks with two strikeouts.  Dakotah Chartier had two of Lyons’ three hits, including a triple.

The Lady Lions crushed Longmont’s Skyline High School on Saturday (October 1), 17-1.  Lyons sent twelve batters to the plate in the first inning, which featured a Maddy Wallace triple, a Dakotah Chartier double, and singles from Chartier, Madison Myers, and Rachel Bashor. Lyons scratched out three more runs in the second inning as Madison Myers, Brittany King, and Hannah Wallace all scored on wild pitches or passed balls.

In the mean time, Lyons Pitcher Rachel Bashor made short work of the Falcon batters, breezing her way through the lineup in three innings by striking out six and inducing three ground ball outs.  A leadoff double in the second inning represented Skyline’s only base  runner in the first three innings.

In the bottom of the third, Maddy Wallace knocked in her third and fourth runs of the game with her second hit, a double to left field.  She later scored on a passed ball.

Shortly thereafter, Brittany King scorched her second single of the game.  She and Dana Arling both scored in the inning.
Skyline got on the board in the top of the fourth.  With runners on a first and third, the trailing runner intentionally got in a rundown and the Lyons defense chose to get her out and concede the run.  A popup and a ground ball later, Lyons got the blowout win.
