For the second Saturday in a row, the Lady Lions staged a rally in the sixth inning, only to come up short.  Battling back from a 6-run deficit after two innings, the Lions chipped away with two in the top of the third and three more in the top of the sixth, but were turned away in the seventh, and lost 7-6 to the Peak to Peak Pumas in Lafayette.

Madison Myers got the Lions on the board in the top of the first by beating out a chopper off the plate with two outs.  She advanced to third on Madeline Wallace’s single to right, and then scored on a wild pitch.  The Pumas scored all seven of their runs in the first two innings, through a combination of walks and a couple of timely hits.  After that, Chandler Subbert came in to pitch four scoreless innings for Lyons.  Both of Lyons’ runs in the top of the third came on wild pitches, as patience seemed to be the best weapon against Puma pitcher Jo Bolyard, who struck out twelve batters but also walked seven during her complete game effort.  It’s difficult to stay in the box against somebody who throws as hard, and as wild, as Bolyard, but Lyons managed seven hits against her nonetheless.

Lyons had a three-run rally in the sixth inning which started when Sammi Bashor knocked in Kimy Harrison with a sharp double to left.  Bashor and Madison Myers also scored in the inning.

In the top of the seventh, pinch runner Hannah Wallace was stranded at third as the last Lion struck out to end the game.
