On Friday, Oct. 21, the Lyons JV and middle school teams competed in the JV/Middle School Cross Country Championships on their home course. This last meet of their season provides a final opportunity for
runners to set season bests or break personal records. One week previous, the JV team also participated in a 5k-time trial, making up for their race in inclement weather on a shortened course at the league meet. These results publish the JV athletes’ fastest time of these two meets. All set a new season best (SB) or personal record (PR).For the boys, Matt Dillon ran 18:58 (PR by 1:31) at the time trial, earning him the 7th and last spot at the regional championship meet. Nick McNulty ran a SB of 19:16; Spencer Huff ran 19:41 (PR by 49 seconds); Ethan Pomeroy ran 19:57 (PR by 59 sec); Levi Stone ran 20:44 (PR by 22 sec); Isaac Vahlenkamp ran a SB of 22:35; Shea Gilman ran 22:36 (a PR by 1:44); Isaiah Vahlenkamp ran 23:58 (PR by 7 sec); Kevin Mattes ran 24:25 (a huge PR by 4:42), Jack Gambrell ran an SB of 24:26; and Matt Smith ran a SB of 28:18.
For the girls, Maia Lang ran a SB of 23:41; Emma Cisar ran 25:38 (PR by 7 sec); Emily Schneider ran 28:07 (PR by 14 sec.); and Savannah Drotart ran 28:03 (a big PR by 2:36).
Coach Jeff Boele’s middle school runners impressively ended their season with 11 of 14 kids running their two-mile home course faster than they had at the beginning of the season. For the Lyons’ boys, Ethan Burton came across the finish first in 13:40. Following were Jack Avirett (14:20), Cassidy Dzekciorius-Bailey (14:54), Nathan Schneider (14:46), Chase Willie (14:56), Jack Davis (15:15), Adam Crowl (15:57), Jack Gilson (15:58), Braedon Mora (16:01), Nathan King (16:14), Connor Weadley (17:55), Nathan Radich (18:21), and Alex Wright (20:14). Some of the eighth graders took on different challenges for their last race of the season. Brian Dillon joined the JV 5K race and finished in 21:59, an outstanding PR of 2:22. Along with Coaches Jeff Boele and Kevin Akers, Paul Roberts and Joel Such ran the open 6K race at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference XC Championship in Denver on Oct. 22nd. Both had excellent races with Roberts running 20:08 and Such running 21:48 on a tough course of grass and hills.
