With the starting gun cracking promptly at 8:15 a.m., 268 middle school boys stormed down a two-mile course. Running for Lyons, Paul Roberts clearly dominated the race finishing 1st with a time of 10:26. Next across the line was teammate Joel Such running 11:21 for 2nd place. The third Lyons’ finisher was Brian Dillon placing 51st with a time of 13:22. Other finishers were Jack Davis 14:38
(98), Chase Willie 14:48 (110), Ethan Burton 15:15 (123), Jack Avirett 15:48 (159), Jack Gilson 15:51 (161), Nathan Schneider 16:46 (197), Adam Crowl 17:32 (212), Nathan King 17:36 (215), Braedon Mora 19:32 (246), Nathan Radich 19:41 (248), Connor Weadley 20:11(257), and Alex Wright 20:14 (258). The boys’ team finished 4th out of 21 schools.
Next up was the girls’ middle school race with 197 participants. Ceann Udovich ran an excellent race finishing 11th overall with a time of 13:34. The next Lion across the line was Amanda Dillon in 59th place with 15:35, followed closely by Sarah Roberts 15:36 for 61st. Sierra Tanner finished well with 21:35 for 184th place. The girls’ team did not have enough runners to factor into team scoring.
Congratulations to all these young runners! Coach Boele remarked that every one of them gained speed since their scrimmage race two weeks ago.
