Strategy Pays Big Dividends – Lyons XC Boys Earn Silver

The Lyons cross-country teams steadily worked through the season gaining in speed, strength, and racing skills.  On October 29, armed with ½” spikes, they showed up ready to test their mettle on a tough state course of brutal hills, uneven footing, and due to the recent snowstorm, a generous helping of mud.

Cross Country Teams Dominates Regional Championships

On Thursday, October 20, 42 high schools (2A, 3A, 4A) gathered in Lyons to contest both individual and team spots for the state cross-country meet.  From the start, there really wasn’t any question about Lyons advancing both a girls’ and boys’ team to the state championship, giving them the luxury of running intelligently in order to save as much as possible for state.

Patriot League Cross Country Championships

The Lions were back at the Mead course on October 8, to participate in the Patriot League Championships.  It was cold, rainy, and muddy, and with each successive race, the conditions continued to deteriorate.  The average cross country runner is tough in body, mind, and spirit and the Lions took on the days’ races with determination.

Lyons Cross Country at the Mead Stampede

The Mead Stampede began with a mile and three quarter middle school race. Despite the hot, dusty conditions, the team ran well.
