Excitement and confidence were in the air last Friday night (January 21) as the Lions took on the Platte Valley Broncos. The Freshmen and Junior Varsity both set the tone with decisive wins. Within seconds of
the Varsity taking the floor Jesse Fisher opened with a resounding 3-point shot. Solid scoring contributions by Zach Pfeifer and Chris Boucher along with outstanding rebounds from Tommy Olson, left the Lions with a comfortable 15 point lead. However, we were reminded of how quickly this fast paced game can change. The Broncos could do no wrong in the 4th quarter while the Lions were held to six points. the Lions suffered a heart breaking loss going down 42-44. Tuesday night (January 25) my alma mater, the Estes Park Bobcats, made the trip down the mountain, but I had no trouble rooting for our Lions who took command of the court and never looked back with a 72-40 victory. Several boys including David Schoenherr, Dugan Tomczak, Zach Pfeifer, and Taylor Keen thrilled the crowd with 3-pointers. Aaron Nichols also took his place on the court and had solid contributions particularly in the 4th quarter. It was great to have the LHS pep band led by Director Karen Gregg in the stands. Everyone also enjoyed wishing a surprised Beth Stall, a teacher who guided all these boys through middle school and cheer leading coach, a well deserved happy birthday.
