The bleachers were shaking Saturday night as another double header took place with both the Lions and Lady Lions taking on the Lutheran Parker Mountain Lions. The evening got off to a great start with both the C Teams and Junior Varsityemerging with exciting victories that left one spectator exhausted at the thought of yet another game. The varsity game was a highly anticipated matchup with the Mountain Lions coming into the game undefeated and ranked #1 in the state. Our Lions truly came out with a roar and played with the tremendous intensity and team work needed from the tip off. The score remained within one or two points for the entire first half going into the locker rooms with Lyons on top 27-26. The 3rd quarter proved to be the Lions’ top scoring with the majority of points being scored by Chris Boucher, Jesse Fischer, and Zac Pfeifer with top assists from David Schoenherr ending the quarter on a high with Lyons up 42-33. Several fouls were called on Lyons throughout the second half and that took a toll with the loss of Taylor Keen and holding the Lyons Lions to only five points in the fourth quarter. At the buzzer we were tied 47-47 and headed into a four minute overtime. Especially memorable during the excitement was a perfectly executed 3-point shot by Zac Pfeifer that was crucial to keeping us in the game. As the crowd went crazy we can be proud that our young men maintained their composure, fought hard and made some spectacular plays, but unfortunately Lutheran emerged with a win 63-56. I encourage everyone to come out and cheer all the Lions on. Without a doubt this was the most exciting place to be on Saturday night!
