After cruising through the District Tournament a week earlier, the Lyons baseball team hit a roadblock in the form of Byers pitcher Jake Eikleberry. Lyons managed only one hit against the hard-throwing lefty, and they struck out 14 times in his stellar 7-inning effort.
The frustration of playing a 3A schedule is over. It’s all 2A from here on out, and Lyons is making the most of it.
After three convincing post-season victories, Lyons is the new Colorado District 4 Champion. They defeated three Christian schools (Heritage, Dayspring, and Resurrection) by a combined score of 43-12, out-hitting them 35-13.The Lyons baseball team visited the “Field of Dreams” at the Big Foot Turf Farm Monday, and left with a satisfying 11-9 victory over the Valley Vikings. On impossibly green grass in the middle of nowhere, Lyons made up for their six fielding errors by putting on a power-hitting display: launching two longballs and pounding out five doubles.
The Lions started the week with an inspiring come-from-behind victory Tuesday against the Weld Central Rebels. Down 5-0 after three and a half innings, Lyons scratched out three runs in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an error and a pair of RBI singles by Roland Valadez and Heath Fesenmeyer. Lyons spotted the Rebels another run in the top of the fifth, and then unleashed their fury for a 6-run barrage in the bottom of the inning.
