On Saturday, June 18th, the Lyons 12 year old baseball team traveled to Draper Field in Longmont for a rematch against the Mariners. The two teams had previously battled to a tie on Bohn Field.
After 2 innings Lyons was up 7-3. The Mariners made their biggest offensive charge in the 3rd inning. A game changing drive was sent deep into right center. Lyons responded with perfect relay throws to cut the runner down stretching for a triple. Over the following 2 innings the Lyons defense remained tight turning a double into an out with another strong outfield throw, catching a drive to left field and two more putouts on the infield.
Preston Stansel pitched the first three innings giving up 5 runs on 4 hits while striking out 3. Jack Gilson pitched the last two innings giving up no runs on 2 hits while striking out 1.
Leading the offense for Lyons was Joe McCain with a double, single and two runs scored. Preston Stansel and Shane Provost doubled. Jack Gilson Luck Irvwin each got 2 hits.
The final score was 9-5 Lyons. The win moves them into 2nd place with a record of 4-1-1.
