At a party on their new garden patio last Saturday evening, June 15, Spirit Hound Distillers, Lyons’ first legal distillery, released a new bottled spirit. Spirit Hound White Dog Moonshine is the unaged, all-malt spirit that the company distills and ages in charred oak barrels for its burgeoning whisky effort. The distillery is releasing this “white whisky” in its fresh form due to its exceptional flavor and demand from consumers stopping at the distillery.
“Our customers have been clamoring for whisky since we opened,” says distiller and co-owner Craig Engelhorn, “and we won’t compromise or rush our aged spirits. But our unaged spirit is clean and flavorful, and after reducing it to 90

A growing trend locally and worldwide, Little Free Libraries, promotes literacy and the love of reading, while also building a sense of community (littlefreelibrary.org for more information). Lutie Stearns is credited for this concept and between 1895 and 1914 she traveled thousands of miles in a horse-drawn wagon to fill little libraries with books. Not unlike what is happening now.

A couple of weeks ago it was a movie crew filming “Dear Eleanor,” Tuesday morning at 6:45 a.m., it was a news crew from the Fox Network in Denver visiting Lyons to do a “live remote” about the extreme fire danger in Colorado. Why Lyons?

Dear Lyons Recorder,
I wanted to comment on the hugely successful 2013 Lyons Outdoor Games (LOG). I have watched this event grow from its infancy into a family-friendly, multi-sport, and activity based three-day event. With growth comes growing pains; however, with growth comes the opportunity for Lyons to grow this event into a nationally recognized destination event that show cases the many attributes our town has to offer (beyond bluegrass). This event, when allowed to prosper, will continue to give back to us and our children for years to come.

Dear Residents of Lyons,
Thank-you again for all of your help in finding Tally, our beloved dog, who ran away during the fireworks at the Lyons Outdoor Games. As recent Montana transplants who now live in Denver, this was our first trip to Lyons and we are so thankful for the kind, dog-friendly people who found Tally. We are looking forward to our next trip to Lyons.
