In the interest of full disclosure, let it be known that the author of this article is married to the Mayor.
After a lengthy pre-meeting workshop with Town Staff on the 2013 budget Monday night, the Board of Trustees (BOT) got off to a late start for their regularly scheduled meeting. Despite the delay, the Trustees and Staff were optimistic that they could wrap up the light agenda by 7:30 or 8 o’clock. However, with an agenda item concerning the compensation scale for Town of Lyons employees, it was not to be. Despite Mayor Julie Van Domelen’s best efforts to keep things moving along, no one was able to make it home in time to enjoy the exciting finish of the Bronco/Charger Monday Night Football game."Sacred Cows"

My public school education was in Colorado School District RE-1 several decades ago. One of the outstanding teachers that I had in high school periodically lectured on “sacred cows.” I didn’t do well in Mr. Bliss’s classes, and I didn’t appreciate him until much later in life.

In the interest of full disclosure, let it be known that the author of this article has already made up his mind about whom he will be voting for on November 6.
A friend mentioned to me over coffee at The Cup last month that he had the opportunity to volunteer at the Presidential debate at the University of Denver, and asked me if I wanted to join him. The idea didn’t particularly interest me (setting up chairs and/or giving people directions to designated parking lots didn’t seem like a great way to spend a Wednesday afternoon and evening). Five Pieces of Lyons Gold

Under the golden dome of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver, Ed Bruder’s five gleaming photos shone brilliantly on Tuesday afternoon, September 18. The occasion was the opening reception of “Our Town Colorado,” an exhibit of over 70 photographs from 27 artists representing 11 Colorado communities, including Montrose, Carbondale, Arvada, Craig, Lyons and more.
