Did a Lyons resident really participate in this year’s Super Bowl? Well . . . sort of. Liz Ferraris, LHS class of 2004 (daughter of Fred and Mary Ferraris), who has been persuing an acting career in Los Angeles landed a plum role in a commercial, which premiered during the broadcast of Super Bowl XLVII between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens.

In the interest of full disclosure, let it be known that the author of this article is married to the Mayor.
No one got married at the Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting Monday night, but the Trustees and Staff did say good-bye to Lyons Substation Supervisor Sgt. Kevin Parker (the old) who in his last duty as Supervisor introduced the Board to his replacement, Sgt. Nick Goldberger (the new). Parker then made his exit, and Goldberger gave his first report to the Trustees. He reported that he had been on the new job for just under one day, and therefore didn’t have much to report.
Under the hat of the Liquor Authority, it was then on to granting Town of Lyons a special event permit to host the next Chamber of Commerce social at the skating rink in Meadow Park. Since there is traditionally beer and wine served at these functions, and since it is being held in a Town park, the permit was needed. The measure was approved in short order with a 7 to 0 vote.

After living in western Pennsylvania for most of their lives, Jay and Elaine Hodge decided it was time for a change; time to live closer to a son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, as well as two sisters who had all relocated to the Front Range of Colorado. Hodge decided to take the work experience he had accumulated in the foundry business and as a human resource officer, and apply it to the wine, spa, special events, and guest accommodations business. As a result, we have a new owner at the Rock n River Resort just outside of Lyons.

This week, Bob Hullinghorst, Treasurer for Boulder County, announced two new programs for taxpayers in mailings sent with tax notices to just over 120,000 property owners.
Under the SEED program for “Special Electronic Deposits,” taxpayers will be able to sign up for direct automatic withdrawal for either one or two payments next year. Over 500 property owners have already agreed to be in the pilot program being tested for taxes due this year.
