Mayor John O’Brien was in our nation’s capital Monday evening trying to straighten out the mess that is our federal government. This week I spoke with Marcelo Ferreira, the Emergency Management Coordinator with the Boulder Office of Emergency Management (OEM), who helped me understand how the OEM helps coordinate disaster response and recovery efforts.
Marcelo started by explaining that the definition of disaster management is much broader than only the actual event. It includes pre- and post-disaster activities.
