The Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) Board of Trustees last week (Friday, February 27) issued the following statement in regard to the Town of Lyons’ recovery housing “Change of Use” proposal for Bohn Park:

“The Great Outdoors Colorado Board will support the will of the people of Lyons as expressed in the March 24, referendum on the proposal to use a portion of Bohn Park to replace affordable housing lost in the September 2013 flood.
GOCO policy and the 1996 grant contract in which GOCO provided funding to help the town acquire the park allows for a modification of use if certain criteria are met.

Scholarships Available For Multicultural Students

Boulder County Community Action Programs (CAP) has scholarship monies to award to low-income students. Scholarships range from $500-$1,000 each and are made possible through proceeds from CAP’s Annual Multicultural Awards Banquet.

Applicants must meet the following criteria: minimum one-year residency in Boulder County; currently attending university, community college or technical school as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student; low- to moderate-income level

Preference is given to students actively involved in a student organization or the community.

Whether it can accurately be described as “ironic,” or perhaps “O. Henry-like” (if there is even such a word), is open for discussion, however the result of the request for approval of a retail recreational marijuana business license by Headquarters at Monday night’s special Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting certainly came as a bit of a surprise. La Fiesta Esta Aqui!

The cold snowy weather last Saturday afternoon couldn’t put a damper on la fiesta for Ramon Vasquez, Carmen Cruz and their children, as scores of family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and volunteers joined Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley to turn over the keys, and dedicate the couple’s new home on Park Street.

Planet Runs Best Festival On The Planet!

The Telluride Bluegrass Festival, produced by Lyons’ own Planet Bluegrass, was awarded “Music Festival of the Year” at the 26th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards, held at the Ryman Auditorium last Saturday night, February 21. This marks the first time a Colorado festival or any “bluegrass festival” has ever won this prestigious award.  

The award was presented by stand-up comedian Ralphie May, who exclaimed: “I love bluegrass music!  Love Colorado!” after announcing the winner.
