A couple of weeks ago it was a movie crew filming “Dear Eleanor,” Tuesday morning at 6:45 a.m., it was a news crew from the Fox Network in Denver visiting Lyons to do a “live remote” about the extreme fire danger in Colorado. Why Lyons?
Well, Monday afternoon while he and his crew were attending a medical assist for a mountain biker who had gone over his handlebars up at Hall Ranch, Fire Chief J.J. Hoffman got a call about a wildfire starting up on Eagle Ridge Road just east of Lyons. Due to a quick response and a lot of luck, Hoffman and a second crew were able to contain the fire to a little less than an acre of grass and some tree

Dear Lyons Recorder,
I wanted to comment on the hugely successful 2013 Lyons Outdoor Games (LOG). I have watched this event grow from its infancy into a family-friendly, multi-sport, and activity based three-day event. With growth comes growing pains; however, with growth comes the opportunity for Lyons to grow this event into a nationally recognized destination event that show cases the many attributes our town has to offer (beyond bluegrass). This event, when allowed to prosper, will continue to give back to us and our children for years to come.

Apparently the phone lines and cyberspace at Town Hall were filled with “mixed” reviews concerning the weekend’s Lyons Outdoor Games on Monday. Some thought the event was “bigger and better than ever,” while others feared for their lives (and the well being of their pets) because of the fireworks, loud music, and rowdy behavior. According to Town Administrator Victoria Simonsen, she, Town Staff, and event organizers will be sitting down sometime next week to “debrief” and try to determine what worked well, and what needs to be adjusted. Dear Residents of Lyons,
Thank-you again for all of your help in finding Tally, our beloved dog, who ran away during the fireworks at the Lyons Outdoor Games. As recent Montana transplants who now live in Denver, this was our first trip to Lyons and we are so thankful for the kind, dog-friendly people who found Tally. We are looking forward to our next trip to Lyons.
Emily, Seth, and Tally

A “hub” can be defined as, “The central part of a wheel, rotating on or with the axle, and from which the spokes radiate” or “A place or thing that forms the effective center of an activity, region, or network.”
The time is nigh for defining the potential hub of Lyons.
Last Wednesday, May 29, at 7 p.m., at Lyons Valley Village, an open public meeting was held toward this end. Information was gathered from the roughly sixty attendees at this visioning session, where maps were offered for clarification, bubble diagramming and insights from experts

The Lyons Lions Club will host their 19th annual golf tournament on Monday, July 29, at the Lake Valley Country Club Golf Course off Highway 36 between Lyons and Boulder.
This is a great opportunity to support the Lyons Lions whose numerous contributions to the Lyons Community include: scholarships to Lyons High School graduates, awards to local students, assistance at athletic events, eye care and glasses for needy residents, highway maintenance, sponsorship of the annual Lyons 9Health Fair and general assistance to local residents.

The filming of the movie, “Dear Eleanor,” here in Lyons during the last couple of weeks caused a bit of excitement around town. Large crowds showed up at the Lyons Village Central Plaza last Wednesday to watch the filming, and maybe catch a glimpse of one of the stars.
The indie-film, produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, directed by Kevin Connolly (best know for his role in the HBO series Entourage) , and starring Jessica Alba (the Fantastic Four movies, Little Fockers, and Spy Kids4), Luke Wilson (the Charlie’s Angels movies, the Legally Blonde movies,
