One had to believe, two weeks ago, when the Board of Trustees (BOT) adjourned their Monday evening meeting at 1:15 the next morning, that that was a record which would stand for some time. Turned out, it stood for, as the Brits would say, “a fortnight.” The Trustees, Mayor, and Staff slogged through a eight-hour workshop/meeting marathon (actually the winning time in a marathon is usually about two hours) that lasted from 5:30 p.m., Monday, March 16, until 1:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 17. Town of Lyons Administrator Victoria Simonsen traveled to Nebraska last week to attend a Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN, the Town’s energy supplier), and accepted on behalf of the Town, the Nebraska Municipal Power Pool (NMPP) “Project of the Year Award” for its flood recovery efforts at its 40th annual meeting and conference in Gering, NE, last week.

The “dog days” of summer usually arrive in August, but in Lyons they get here a little bit earlier. On Fridays, during the entire month of April, Lyons residents who are also dog owners (or caretakers if you prefer, after all this is Boulder County) will be able to take advantage of discounts being offered for dog licenses by the Town of Lyons.

Whether it can accurately be described as “ironic,” or perhaps “O. Henry-like” (if there is even such a word), is open for discussion, however the result of the request for approval of a retail recreational marijuana business license by Headquarters at Monday night’s special Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting certainly came as a bit of a surprise. It was turned down!
