Whether it can accurately be described as “ironic,” or perhaps “O. Henry-like” (if there is even such a word), is open for discussion, however the result of the request for approval of a retail recreational marijuana business license by Headquarters at Monday night’s special Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting certainly came as a bit of a surprise. It was turned down!

After a summer of feverish work, a new Montessori school opened up in the old parsonage next to the Lyons Community Church. Mayor John O’Brien and Trustee LaVern Johnson helped the Lyons Valley Preschool staff and board proudly cut the ribbon to welcome a couple dozen eager toddlers to the world of education.

Year in Review - Part One

Editor’s Note: In order that Lora and I, and all our wonderful volunteer contributors might enjoy some time off to be with our families and friends during the holidays the Lyons Recorder will continue our tradition of using the last week of the Old Year, and the first week of the New Year to bring our readers the Year in Review. Much in the same way of 2013 being remembered mostly for the devastating September flood, 2014 here in Lyons seemed to a large extent to resolve around “recovery.” Life did get somewhat back to “normal” for most residents. However, as a walk through the Confluence Neighborhood shows, we still have a long way to go.
