The speed with which the Board of Trustees (BOT) raced through their agenda Monday night might have led one to believe there were a few Duke/Wisconsin fans in the room trying to make it home in time for the final thrilling minutes of the game. Congratulations to the Blue Devils, and to the Trustees, who adjourned their meeting at 9:17 p.m., a new record!

Meet the Boulder Office of Emergency Management

This week I spoke with Marcelo Ferreira, the Emergency Management Coordinator with the Boulder Office of Emergency Management (OEM), who helped me understand how the OEM helps coordinate disaster response and recovery efforts.

Marcelo started by explaining that the definition of disaster management is much broader than only the actual event. It includes pre- and post-disaster activities.

Burning The Midnight Oil

One had to believe, two weeks ago, when the Board of Trustees (BOT) adjourned their Monday evening meeting at 1:15 the next morning, that that was a record which would stand for some time. Turned out, it stood for, as the Brits would say, “a fortnight.” The Trustees, Mayor, and Staff slogged through a eight-hour workshop/meeting marathon (actually the winning time in a marathon is usually about two hours) that lasted from 5:30 p.m., Monday, March 16, until 1:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 17. Lyons Receives Project of Year Award

Town of Lyons Administrator Victoria Simonsen traveled to Nebraska last week to attend a Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN, the Town’s energy supplier), and accepted on behalf of the Town, the Nebraska Municipal Power Pool (NMPP) “Project of the Year Award” for its flood recovery efforts at its 40th annual meeting and conference in Gering, NE, last week.
