The Town of Lyons Staff held a roundtable meeting with the owners and landlords of the medical marijuana businesses here in Lyons last Wednesday evening (January 12). Construction began several weeks ago on a new sound wall along Highway 36 on the western edge of Planet Bluegrass. The eight foot tall sound barrier is the final element relating to the North St. Vrain bridge projects, which were rebuilt by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) in 2007. “This was part of the plan all along,” says Planet Bluegrass president Craig Ferguson.

The Lyons Board of Trustees (BOT) passed the first reading of an ordinance Monday night that would grant the gas franchise for the Town of Lyons to Xcel Energy for the next twenty years. Xcel Area Manager Craig Eicher told the Board that his company served between 880 to 900 residential and commercial customers in the Lyons area, and collected $640,000 in revenues in 2009. Surprisingly, eight citizens and two Trustees showed up at Monday evening’s Planning and Community Development Commission (PCDC) meeting. Not surprisingly, six of the citizens were there to talk about unexplored options (the banning of cultivation, infusion, and sale of medical marijuana) the Town might consider. Unfortunately for those six hearty souls who had braved the frigid temperatures instead of watching the Auburn/Oregon game, medical marijuana was not on the agenda. What was on the agenda were possible amendments to the Town’s annexation procedures.
