A large crowd of Lyons area residents where on hand at Oskar Blues last Saturday afternoon to show their appreciation and say thank you to the Lyons Fire Protection District volunteers and crew for all they do to protect us. The event was the kick-off of a statewide series of “Fight Fire with Beer, BBQ, and Music” celebrations. Lyons Mayor Julie Van Domelen was on hand to introduce and thank Fire Chief J.J. Hoffman, while everyone enjoyed some delicious brats, pulled pork, green bean casserole, and cold slaw supplied by Oskars. The local
brewery also whipped up a “special brew” called Station House 2 for the celebration. The musical entertainment was provided by Shotgun Moses. Chief Hoffman thanked everyone for coming out, and added his thanks to event orgainizer David Clark and sponsors: Oskar Blues for the BBQ and beer (plus the pizzas that often find their way across the street to the station house), and CEMEX for their continued support of the Fire District volunteers, who train in a special fire training structure located on the CEMEX property.
